Capoeira Brasil was founded in 1989, Capoeira Brasil Los Angeles (CBLA) was founded in 1998, and Benção Brasil Cultural Center was founded in 2002. The programs are led by Mestre Boneco, a world-renowned Capoeira master, founder of Capoeira Brasil Los Angeles, and co-founder of Grupo Capoeira Brasil. Benção Brasil Cultural Center is a 501 c(3) non-profit partner of Capoeira Brasil. The organization engages in classes, community programming, teaching residencies, international cultural exchanges, workshops, festivals, and performances, and donations to Benção Brasil fund memberships and uniforms for needy and at-risk youth, plane tickets and fees for visiting teachers, and musical instruments and teaching equipment. For classes, participants are asked to wear clean white Capoeira pants (abadas), a cord, and a Capoeira or white t-shirt, with Capoeira street pants allowed on Fridays and Saturdays, and first-time students able to wear regular athletic gear instead of a uniform. New students have two months to buy a Capoeira Brasil uniform, are required to wear proper athletic undergarments, and do not wear street shoes on the training floor.
