Childcare at The LATC is part of programming presented by the Latino Theater Company, whose mission at The Los Angeles Theatre Center is to provide a world-class arts center, a laboratory where both tradition and innovation are honored, and a place where the convergence of people, cultures, and ideas contribute to the future. Since 1985, Latino Theater Company has focused on bold, contemporary stories exploring the U.S. Latina/o/x experience while amplifying diverse voices from Black, First Nation, Asian American, LGBTQ+, and other communities. American Theatre Magazine has described the Latino Theater Company as “among America’s great ensembles,” noting that the company has been together for almost 30 years. Donations to the Latino Theater Company constitute more than half of its annual required support and fully fund its education and community programs. Every winter, the company presents “La Virgen de Guadalupe, Dios Inantzín,” a Spanish-language pageant play at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Los Angeles, featuring a local cast of over 100 professional and community performers and drawing an audience of over 6,000 people. The company’s productions have received multiple honors, including Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Ted Schmidt Awards for Outstanding New Play for “A Mexican Trilogy: An American Story,” “The Mother of Henry,” and “Time Alone,” as well as Ovation recognition for “Desert Rats” and an Ovation nomination for Jonathan Caren’s “Canyon.”
