About

Youth Development Programs and Camps includes youth programs, afterschool programs, and camps that offer activities such as sports, recreation, fitness activities, and community events. Participants can take part in swim lessons and swim safety lessons, summer camp, day camps, and overnight adventures. Teens in the program learn about citizenship and diplomacy by debating policies, drafting bills, and collaborating with peers from across the state.

The mission of Youth Development Programs and Camps is connected to the Center for Community Well-Being, which states that health is shaped by access to food, safe spaces, learning, and human connection. The organization reports that 3.9 million pounds of food have been distributed to families in need, and that it meets people with food, support, and services. It also reports that more than 9,000 children and adults have been taught swim safety lessons, more than 23,000 youth are developing skills through sports and programs, more than 2,000 California YMCA youth are learning citizenship and diplomacy, and more than 50,000 members are engaged in work building a safer, healthier Los Angeles. The organization states that more than $3 million in financial assistance has been provided to make Y centers accessible.
