The Silver Lake Kitchen

The Silver Lake Kitchen offers hands-on after school cooking classes for ages 4-7 that focus on essential cooking and baking skills, knife safety, kneading dough, and following recipes. It also offers smaller, slower-paced classes for neurodivergent children and adults, private lessons and consultations, adult cooking classes, and The Vita Gang Classes for ages 8-18 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Programs

• After School Cooking — Ages 4-7 · Hands-on after school classes focused on essential cooking and baking skills, knife safety, kneading dough, and following recipes.
• Neurodivergent Classes — Smaller, slower-paced classes for neurodivergent children and adults, including autistic students and those with ADHD, with extra time and encouragement and without pressure to taste.
• Private Lessons — Private lessons and consultations.
• Adult Cooking Classes — Adult cooking classes.
• The Vita Gang Classes — Ages 8-18 · Tuesdays and Thursdays · Classes based on The Vita Gang Mysteries.

About the provider

The Silver Lake Kitchen was founded in 2005. Chef Mary launched the school in fall 2022, and she is a certified chef and nutritionist with over 20 years of cooking experience. The summer camp launched in summer 2021, and after school classes launched in fall 2022. The school was launched with support from the Silver Lake, Los Feliz, and Atwater community.

There is no pressure to eat anything. Some students may need a parent, caregiver, or support person to accompany them so they can participate safely and comfortably.
