Rancho Compasión Summer Camp | Marin County, CA

Located in the rolling hills of Nicasio in Marin County, Rancho Compasión offers a unique outdoor summer camp on 17 acres of Coast Miwok land. Our animal sanctuary is home to over 100 rescued farm animals, creating a meaningful farm and nature-based camp experience.

Campers enjoy a supportive, engaging environment filled with hands-on animal care, nature exploration, and outdoor learning. Each week at Rancho Compasión Summer Camp offers a unique experience rooted in connection, confidence-building, and discovery. Children care for rescued farm animals, explore habitats, and participate in garden-to-table activities that deepen their understanding of the interconnectedness of all living beings. Every session blends creativity, movement, and exploration—helping campers build meaningful relationships with nature, animals, and the land while creating a memorable and enriching summer experience.

A highlight of camp is our half-acre organic garden, where campers participate in garden-to-table learning, discovering where food comes from and how it connects to the health of the earth.

We also provide a fresh, organic lunch each day, nourishing campers with seasonal ingredients—many grown right here at the sanctuary.

Perfect for animal lovers, nature enthusiasts, and curious explorers, Rancho Compasión Summer Camp inspires compassion, connection, and a love for the natural world.

Sanctuary Guidelines

Behavior Around the Animals:
As a farmed animal sanctuary, our animal residents are a top priority. Our rescued residents have come from various situations of neglect, exploitation, etc. and therefore not all are comfortable around groups of people. We ask that any person who steps foot on the property respect our residents' agency, safety, and the fact that this is their home. That means allowing them to walk away if they choose, refraining from chasing or touching animals, keeping all gates closed and not entering habitats without staff permission, not feeding them anything without approval, etc. We are not a petting zoo - some animals enjoy contact, but please ask a staff member prior to touching any of the residents. Similarly, it is important to keep voice levels down and refrain from running or moving quickly around the animals.
Attire:
The sanctuary property is a natural space and home to 100 different animals. Expect to encounter poop and get muddy and dusty and dress accordingly with comfortable, durable clothing. Wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes (ideally with ankle support) as ground is natural and uneven. Prepare for any weather, as the microclimate is at times unpredictable.
Food on the Property:
As part of our commitment to the animals in our care, our sanctuary is a fully vegan space. We kindly ask that any food or beverages brought onto or enjoyed on the property are 100% vegan—free from animal flesh, dairy, eggs, honey, or other animal-derived ingredients. If you have any questions or need guidance, we’re always happy to help.
