About
Margaret Osborn Spanish Tutoring offers Spanish tutoring for all levels and abilities, including one-on-one instruction. The program includes AP Spanish Test Preparation, SAT Subject Test Spanish Preparation, and academic language planning that evaluates a student’s abilities and recommends an individual academic foreign language coursework plan. Tutoring sessions continue through the week when students text Margaret questions or ask her to review their assignments.

Margaret Osborn is a private Spanish language instructor with more than 15 years in business and over 30 years in the profession, and she holds an M.A. She has served as a Spanish language teacher at Menlo-Atherton High School and was Department Chair from 2010 to 2016. In 1995 she developed and rolled out a Spanish for Native Speaker Program, and after 25 years that program continues to flourish and has quadrupled in size. Her instruction is based on Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and she provides Advanced Placement instruction with a top passing rate since 2010. She is bilingual in Spanish and English and fluent in French, and her clients range from middle schoolers to professionals to military personnel. She also works with students who have IEPs for the Spanish language component and is described as a tutor of first choice when a student is in an academically compromised position, including unusual, complex, and challenging teaching projects resulting in unabridged success. Reported outcomes from the program state that students see grade improvements of over 20 percent after just two tutoring sessions.
The program’s mission is to work with each student one-on-one to identify their challenges and determine custom teaching techniques so that each student’s language goals are met. Community schools and institutions where students have received tutoring support from Margaret include Carlmont High School, Castilleja School, Crystal Springs Uplands School, Girls Middle School, Hillview Middle School, La Entrada Middle School, Menlo-Atherton High School, Menlo College, Menlo School, Palo Alto High School, Sacred Heart, Santa Clara University, Serra High School, St. Francis High School, University of San Diego, Woodside Elementary, and Woodside Priory.
Parent and student testimonials describe students raising failing grades to passing or higher, including moving from an F to a B in high school Spanish and earning a 5 on the AP Spanish exam. Testimonials also describe students skipping a level of Spanish after rapid progress, completing all high school Spanish by junior year, and moving from near failure to B and A-range grades after meeting with Margaret, sometimes twice a week. Families report that Margaret communicates effectively with teenagers, identifies key areas of weakness, provides memorization tools, and, in one case, alerted a student to a learning difference that led to school testing and access to learning resources. Multiple parents note that she established relationships with reluctant pre-teens, coordinated with school Spanish teachers and their lesson plans, and continued working with siblings over several years.
