About
Seiwakai Karate Silicon Valley offers Karate and self-defense training based on traditional Goju-Ryu Karate from Okinawa, Japan. The program states that it teaches “real Karate from Okinawa Japan” with “no ego, no back-flips, no magic formula, no secrets.” It is led by Johnpaul Williams Sensei.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Classes meet on Mondays and Wednesdays between 5:30 pm and 8:45 pm
Seiwakai Karate Silicon Valley was founded to preserve the legacy of traditional Karate and Japanese Budo in the Bay Area. Its mission is to provide world-class Karate training that remains accessible to neighbors in Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Redwood City, Mountain View, and the surrounding Silicon Valley communities. SEIWAKAI KARATE SILICON VALLEY was formed to help maintain community health and stability through consistent training.
The program is part of a Goju Ryu network with a presence in over 100 countries and invites students to “join us in Japan and around the world.” It states that it is not Tae Kwon Do branded as Karate and that it does not use the term Sifu. The program notes themes such as empowerment through self-defense, life skills learned in Karate, building confidence with every Karate kata, and emphasizes that “at SKSV we fight” and “at SKSV – we strive.” It also states that it competes and proudly serves students commuting from Stanford, Sunnyvale, and Foster City who seek authentic, traditional Karate instruction. The program’s materials indicate continuous operation under the Seiwakai Karate Silicon Valley and Goju Ryu Network name from 1996 to the present.
