About
The Joy Culture Foundation Enrichment Programs include story time, Chinese storytelling, arts and crafts, toys and board games, and a variety of classes, workshops, and events. Children can take part in activities in art, music, dance, science, STEM, and drama, as well as cultural and educational events such as Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations and the Little Entrepreneur Fair. The programs also offer free Chinese storytelling and arts and crafts sessions every week and use a large collection of Chinese children’s picture books in traditional and simplified Chinese, as well as Cantonese.
• Ages: 0–12 years old
• Schedule: Program activities are available Tuesday to Friday during the day and on weekends during the day
In January 2022, The Joy Culture Foundation established The Little Bookworm Chinese Library in Menlo Park. The organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in the San Francisco Bay Area and states that its mission is to provide educational, cultural programs and gathering spaces to help Chinese speaking families build confidence, identity, and community. It provides an extensive resource platform for families interested in Chinese culture and focuses on fostering emotional connections between parents and children through cultural activities and Mandarin education.
One parent, Brian Chan, an engineer, shared that his family used to buy Chinese children’s books from Taiwan and either pay high shipping fees or carry them back from visits, and that discovering the Little Bookworm Library lifted the financial burden of educating their children in their culture and gave his kids new books to enjoy at bedtime.
