About
Mojo Dojo Karate offers training in Karate, T'ai Chi Ch'uan, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Muay Thai kickboxing. Classes also include kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). Little Mojo classes are 45 minutes.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options are available Monday through Saturday, with Little Mojo classes running 45 minutes.
Mojo Dojo Karate describes itself as a welcoming, diverse, family-centered community where boys, girls, men, and women learn and grow in a positive, well disciplined, and encouraging atmosphere. The program states that karate training is not just about self-defense but also about character development, self-esteem, self-confidence, and an “I CAN” mindset that impacts many areas of students’ lives. The Student Creed emphasizes developing in a positive manner, avoiding anything that reduces mental growth or physical health, developing self-discipline, bringing out the best in oneself and others, using what is learned constructively and defensively, helping oneself and others, never being abusive or offensive, and becoming one’s best self.
The leadership team includes Shihan James Henry, MBA (Owner and Master Instructor), Linda Anderson Henry, MBA (Owner and Member Support), and Sensei Stephen Ludin (Senior Instructor), along with recognition of Dai Shihan Isaac Henry Jr. as founder and 10th Degree Grandmaster of Beikoku Wado-ryu and Shihan Fred as Chief Instructor at the Headquarters Dojo for Beikoku Karate-do Goyukai (BKG) in Long Branch, NJ. Beikoku Wado-ryu, a Japanese style of karate, is taught, and the program notes a multi-generational black belt family spanning three generations. One black belt at the dojo attained 5th degree master after starting karate at age 55.
Shihan James Henry is a Master Instructor of Beikoku Wado-ryu and holds the rank of Judan, 10th degree black belt, having earned his 1st degree black belt at age 14. He has had a passion for teaching karate for over 50 years and returned to teaching karate in 2000. As a competitor, he was ranked in the top 10 of the Northeast region, competed in both kata and kumite, and won over 300 trophies. His participation in the 2010 USA Open Karate Championship and USA Karate Junior Olympics in Las Vegas, Nevada, earned him bronze medals in kata. He holds degrees in Drafting & Design Technology, Business Administration, and Telecommunications Management, as well as an MBA.
Sensei Stephen Ludin is a third degree black belt in Beikoku Wado-ryu and has been training for 14 years. Linda Anderson Henry has run her own business, Prosperity Circles, for over 30 years and leads business advisory groups. The program notes that Little Mojo classes are fun, educational, and motivational, and that it offers programs for Pre-K/K (Little Mojo), Youth, and Teen/Adult. The site is designed by Nautilus Designs and uses Martialytics for its contact form.
