Daruma Dojo lists Prof. Alberto Juarez, Guilherme Giglio, Noah Myers, Sevey Lee, and Joshua Carter on its leadership team. Alberto Juarez started Jiu-Jitsu in 2003 and has 20 years of experience training both adults and children in martial arts. Professor Alberto Juarez is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in BJJ under Ricardo Barros, holds a Judo black belt from David Williams, and has a B.S. in Kinesiology from San Jose State University. He has taught BJJ at San Jose State University and was formerly the head BJJ instructor for Stanford's club. The dojo says it is family-oriented, welcomes all genders and people with special needs, and supports students with special needs in kids classes and the after-school program.
Kids classes are divided by age and skill level. Honor Roll is invitational-only for students grey belt and above. The after-school program has limited enrollment. Adults and teens are offered classes in Gi and No-Gi.
What families say
“Stepping into Daruma Dojo changed everything for me. I came in looking for something physical, but what I found was a space that helped restore my mind, body, and spirit. With the help of Professor Alberto I’ve grown in ways I didn’t expect. Every roll on the mat is a reminder of how far I’ve come.” — CHRIS CHAPIAMA, CEO | THE RED CARD STUDIO
