Team Elite Basketball was formed in 2008, and in 2012 the program opened a 10,000 sq. foot basketball facility. The leadership team includes Rodel Cruzet, Coach Rodel, Coach Zach, and Al. The program’s stated mission is to offer elite training and knowledge to young athletes to take their game to the next level, turn weaknesses into strengths and improve on strengths, and to ensure that each individual develops on and off the court.
Coach Rodel’s experience with basketball began at age 9 playing competitive basketball, and he started assistant coaching for local National Junior Basketball and school teams at 13 years old. He received the Community Service Award at his 8th grade graduation from St. John Vianney in 2002 and later graduated from Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward in 2006. The program reports that it now has over 200 kids in its club teams, group training, and individual training, and that Coach Rodel works out with the players, sweats with them, and motivates them every day.
Every player receives one Team Elite shirt, one Team Elite hoodie, and a custom Team Elite backpack. Every player participating in tournaments receives a free custom Team Elite jersey. The program states that it will play in tournaments every weekend in the month of March, for a total of four tournaments.
Parent and player testimonials describe Team Elite as a basketball program that treats families like family from the beginning and note that Coach Rodel was glad to help players work on many parts of their game. One family reports being with Team Elite and Coach Rodel for over three years and highlights the many practices and AAU weekend games. Another testimonial from a player training for pro ball states that Coach Rodel is passionate, cares about the game of basketball, hard work, and the kids. A parent of a player in his third season with Team Elite reports seeing improvements in both skills and being part of a team, and mentions that Coach Rodel and Al have helped the player gain confidence and work on skill level.
