AMES Child Care Center (Facility # 434408035/(6)) was founded in 1986, with a new facility completed in 2002, and it opened to the general public in 2005. The program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The center has implemented innovative, research-based curricula that emphasize STEM learning and has prioritized diversity and inclusion for children and families from various backgrounds and abilities. Ames Child Care Center Preschool is a parent participation school where parents assist the staff with center upkeep, fundraising, special outings, and enrichment activities such as cooking or crafts. The mission of AMES Child Care Center is to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that supports the growth and development of every child within the NASA Ames Research Center community and to cultivate curiosity, creativity, and collaboration in a diverse and inclusive learning community. The center is focused on providing care and early education for the children of NASA employees, civil servants, contractors, and military employees working at Ames Research Center and Moffett Federal Air Field, and it is described as a highly respected child development center within the NASA Ames community that celebrates its partnership with the NASA Ames Research Center. The leadership team includes Christine Nazario, Director, and Ruchika Uthayakumar, Assistant Director, and operation of the Ames Child Care Center is governed by a parent-elected Board of Directors.

Ames Child Care Center Preschool offers in-person tours every Friday at 9:30 AM for waitlisted families who would like a brief look at the facilities and classrooms. Spots for these tours are limited to three families at a time, and each tour is led by the director or assistant director.
