About

Gladiator Jiu Jitsu Family Summer Camp includes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training for preschoolers, kids, teens, and adults, along with options for nogi classes, wrestling, and Muay Thai. The program is part of a broader set of activities that also includes birthday parties and other summer camp sessions at Gladiator Jiu Jitsu Family.

• Ages: 4–18 years old

Gladiator Jiu Jitsu Family has been serving families since 2018 and focuses on martial arts, education, and coaching, with an emphasis on a safe, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere for students and family members. The mission of the program states that martial arts is for everyone regardless of age, gender, or experience level, and that students learn skill sets to protect themselves through a realistic and practical approach.

The leadership team includes Black Belt Head Instructor Professor Kenneth Penn; Adults Coach Professor Denny Meelarp; Kids/Adults Coaches Michael Dawson and Justin Spencer; Nogi/Wrestling Coach Matthew Greensweight; Muay Thai Coach Marvin Ruiz; Kids Coach Kevin Rodriguez; and Office Manager and Program Director Michelle Penn. Staff credentials include IBJJF NoGi World and other IBJJF competition placements for Professor Ken, multiple IBJJF and NAGA placements for Coach Michael, and IBJJF and BJJ Tour placements for Coach Michelle, along with extensive martial arts and military experience for Professor Denny and long-term Muay Thai and grappling experience for other coaches.

Community involvement includes Professor Ken providing Jiu Jitsu and self-defense for families in Montclair and surrounding communities where he grew up. Testimonials from parents and students describe the academy as positive, encouraging, welcoming, fun, and inviting, and note increased self-esteem, strength, and confidence for kids, as well as long-term mentorship and competition experiences for coaches. Parents are encouraged to watch their children in kids martial arts lessons, and there is also an option for parents to drop children off during classes. Families are advised that kids should wear comfortable clothes suitable for sports and bring a water bottle to classes.
