Instructor/Owner Yanguang Shifu began living and training at the Shaolin Temple at age 7, training 10 hours a day, six days a week, all year-round and outdoors in all weather, with only one holiday each year to see his parents. His training at the Shaolin Temple lasted 10 years and included 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, starting at 5AM with a half-marathon run up Songshan Mountain, followed by conditioning, forms, weapons, and stretching, and by age 14 he was teaching at the temple and later joined its elite performance team to tour the world promoting Shaolin Kungfu. For the past 17 years, he has taught thousands of students at US Kungfu Center. Coach Sherry was born in Okinawa and raised in Honolulu, earned a Biology degree on a full music scholarship focused on violin, taught high school Algebra, conducted genetics research, worked as a bilingual flight attendant based in Hong Kong, won a full scholarship in Vocal Performance through a singing competition, and became a professional singer performing internationally, including at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and she began training in Shaolin Kungfu after booking an action role in an indie film and has appeared in over 24 film and TV projects.

US Kungfu Center states that it is committed to unlocking the full potential of every individual through the transformative power of martial arts and describes its mission as combining authentic Shaolin tradition with modern educational science. The program describes its core as a fusion of Eastern discipline and Western child-development philosophy aimed at building character, emotional intelligence, and real-world leadership skills. It also states that its goal is to help kids and their families within the community and that community members in Monterey Park and the San Gabriel Valley cherish its classes and appreciate what it offers for students.
