About
AYSO Region 294 Youth Soccer Program offers youth soccer programs where kids play soccer. The program is part of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), which focuses on organized youth soccer activities.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) was established in 1964 and is the oldest national youth soccer program in the United States. AYSO is a non-profit organization that provides youth soccer programs for participants across the United States and internationally in the Virgin Islands and Trinidad and Tobago. AYSO consists of over 50,000 teams and 500,000 players nationwide and is often called “the biggest soccer club in the world.” AYSO Region 294 serves the Kern River Valley, California, and uses the Mojo Sports App for communication.
AYSO’s stated mission is “Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.” AYSO is structured by Regions, Areas and Sections, and AYSO Region 294 is one of these Regions. AYSO runs on volunteer power with nearly 150,000 registered volunteers, and every coach, referee, Regional Commissioner, and the National Board of Directors and National President are volunteers.
AYSO offers several specific program types. AYSO Playground is a program for kids 3 to 5 years old that uses group activities, soccer themes and parent participation to develop fundamental motor skills. AYSO Schoolyard Jamboree exposes 4 year olds to soccer and teaches basics such as kicking, dribbling and throw-ins in a low-pressure setting. The Core program spans the U-6 to U-19 age divisions and is typically separated by gender, although co-ed soccer is offered in some communities at early age levels and for teen recreational programs. EXTRA offers a more serious level of soccer for AYSO players who have the interest and the abilities and follows AYSO’s Six Philosophies. The VIP (Very Important Player) program provides a soccer experience for kids and adults whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult to successfully participate on a mainstream team. In AYSO, every player on every team plays at least 50 percent of every game, and in some cases 3/4 of a game.
AYSO has thriving programs in nearly 900 communities all over the country.
