About

Crystal Cove Conservancy STEM Education Programs use Crystal Cove as an outdoor classroom for hands-on STEM education programs. Students take part in hands-on science learning focused on marine ecosystems, conservation, climate resilience, and coastal research. The program includes field experiences on the beach, in the backcountry, and on the water, as well as public programs that invite people to connect with Crystal Cove through art, exploration, and shared experiences in nature.

• Price: Many of these programs are provided at low or no cost to schools.

Crystal Cove Conservancy was founded in 1999 by Laura Davick, a third-generation resident of Crystal Cove. Revenue generated through cottage rentals and park concessions supports historic preservation, environmental conservation, and these hands-on STEM education programs. Every year, thousands of students come through the Conservancy’s STEM education programs, with many visiting the beach or a state park for the first time. Crystal Cove’s Historic District is one of California’s last remaining historic coastal cottage communities for public use, and to date, 41 historic cottages and the Japanese Schoolhouse have been restored and returned to public use. Crystal Cove Conservancy is the nonprofit public benefit partner to Crystal Cove State Park and one of California State Parks’ largest public benefit partners, and it is a nationally recognized model for public-private partnership. Its mission is to employ a social enterprise model to fund preservation, education, and conservation initiatives that will cultivate the next generation of environmental stewards so that Crystal Cove and similar places live on for generations. Crystal Cove State Park is located on the traditional and unceded lands and waters of the Acjachemen and Tongva Tribal Nations, and the Conservancy works alongside Tribal members and community partners in the ongoing stewardship and protection of this place.
