About
Lights Up Musical Theatre Schools offers musical theatre classes where students take part in singing, dancing, and acting. Classes and camps include group harmony and solo vocal work, scene study, dance technique, script writing, choreography, and theatre games. The program runs weekly musical theatre classes, after school programs, and themed Spring Break and Summer camps that include songs, dances, and acting material that change each week.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Weekly musical theatre classes run alongside the school terms, with Starlight for 3–5 years on Saturdays, Spotlight for 6–13 years on Saturdays or Sundays, and The Company for 13–18 years on Friday evenings; Spring Break and Summer camps run Monday to Friday as half day (4–6 years, 9:15am–12:15pm) or full day (6–12 years, 9:00am–3:00pm), with a show for parents on Friday.
• Price: The Company term fee is $570 + GST with a $100 deposit and a one-time $30 student kit fee for new students; half day camps for 4–6 year olds are $260* and full day camps for 6–12 year olds are $425*, each with a $50 deposit; siblings in Spotlight or The Company classes receive a 50% class discount, and there are sibling and multiple camp discounts, with fees subject to GST.
The program states that it teaches musical theatre skills that help students shine on stage and in all aspects of their lives and that it views the true value of theatre as being in the process rather than the final production. Students work as a “company” with the goal of creating various performance pieces throughout the year that explore musical theatre, and in Spring Term 2026 each week of classes works toward a full musical show performed in a theatre in June. The Company program builds on skills covered in the Spotlight program, is for teens with a strong interest in performing arts and some past experience in singing, dance, and/or acting, and is described as giving older students skills and confidence for post-secondary training, audition skills and technique, or confidence, poise, and drive in future jobs or endeavours.
Spring Break and Summer camps are offered as half day and full day options Monday to Friday, with no previous experience required to join. Each themed camp follows the same structure, with new songs, dances, and acting material each week, and friends and family are invited to attend a show on the last day of camp, at 11:30am for half day camps and 2:00pm for full day camps. Many campers attend multiple camp weeks each year, and discounts are available for siblings attending camps and for students attending multiple camps in the year, with the first sibling or first camp at the regular fee and subsequent siblings or camps at the discounted rate; sibling and multiple discounts are not combined, and the greatest discount is applied automatically after sign up.
After school programs are led by Lights Up Musical Theatre Schools staff described as talented and experienced, and new students in The Company program receive a student kit that includes a t-shirt, bag, and folder or script book for use in classes. The program notes that there is an ongoing wait list for any full classes, and wait list places are offered in the order they are received as spots open.
Parent feedback includes comments about children’s confidence and enjoyment of classes and camps, appreciation for teachers being excellent, supportive, encouraging, and professional, and positive experiences with students’ involvement in script writing and choreography and peer support during shows. One parent notes that staff shared a video of a dance after class so their child could practice at home, and another mentions that teens in The Company show their skills to friends and family at performances and shows throughout the year.
