About
Kismet Kids Musical Theatre gives each child a chance to sing, dance, and have a speaking role in a full musical theatre production. All kids in the program are assigned a “name” part with lines, and the company states that there are plenty of parts for older kids, younger kids, girls, and boys.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Friday night rehearsals during the school year and two 3-week summer camp sessions (June–August)
Kismet Kids Musical Theatre was founded by Laura Grissom in 2011 as an ensemble production company where each role is described as equally important. Since 2011, she has directed more than 60 shows at schools throughout the San Fernando Valley. The program describes itself as non-competitive, nurturing, and fun, with a goal for every child to get as much stage time as possible and to feel good about his or her participation, whether a seasoned performer or a first-time actor. The program states that no experience is necessary and that Kismet Kids Musical Theatre is “Where EVERY kid is a STAR!!”
Ms. Laura studied Musical Theatre, Children’s Theatre, Theatre Production, and Dance at the University of Nevada, Reno. She performed in theatrical productions including Oklahoma!, Guys and Dolls, Gypsy, Cabaret, Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Oliver!, and Stop the World, and she received hands-on training in production support. The program notes that it offers convenient Friday night rehearsals, Saturday and Sunday performances, and unlimited audience seating.
