• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Free 7 day trial with unlimited access to all classes for 7 days from when families claim the trial
North Bay Jiu Jitsu has been serving the Novato and Marin County martial arts community since 2014 and has trained over 2,300 students, including producing its first homegrown black belt. The academy hosts a Saturday Open Mat for the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community in Marin County and welcomes students from Novato, San Rafael, Petaluma, Mill Valley, Fairfax, and Corte Madera.
Founder and owner Tryfon Stathopoulos is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, a 2x World Champion, and has over 25 years of experience, and he has been teaching since 2005. The leadership and instructor team includes brown belt instructor and academy administrator Sonia Lastreto, black belt instructor and founding member Chris Cashman, brown belt instructor Sebastian Uhalde, black belt and main kids instructor Paulo Silva, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt and boxing coach Dmytro Pakhan, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt and No Gi specialist Jacob Miller. Sonia Lastreto has medals from IBJJF Worlds and other major events, and Sebastian Uhalde has earned gold medals at the JJWL Golden State Open.
The program focuses on structured, practical Jiu Jitsu that is accessible and sustainable for the long term, with techniques that emphasize real self-defense and everyday training rather than moves that rely on extreme flexibility or athleticism. It offers structured kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes, no-gi grappling that emphasizes wrestling, control, and practical submissions without the traditional gi, and a beginner-friendly culture with a clear progression and a stated focus on “no ego,” where kids and adults train with confidence. Free trial access does not require credit card information.
