Cuong Nhu Redwood Dojo

Cuong Nhu Redwood Dojo offers Pre-Karate for ages 4.5 and 5, Beginning Kids martial arts classes for ages 6 and older, teen classes, and adult classes. Pre-Karate classes include age-appropriate skills, fine and gross motor skills, respect, safety, and cooperation. Beginning Kids classes teach hard style martial arts, and teen and adult classes attend two to three rigorous classes a week.

About the provider

Cuong Nhu Redwood Dojo was founded in January 1992 and has offered traditional martial arts training to the Oakland community since 1992. The leadership team includes Head instructor Lara Tribe-Jones and founder Didi Goodman. The mission is to offer ongoing classes in Cuong Nhu martial arts for children, teens, and adults, with students learning martial arts skills, self-defense, self-confidence, control, and respect. Master Didi Goodman is shichidan (7th degree) and has 40 years' experience in martial arts. Lara Tribe-Jones is Sandan (third degree black belt) and holds an M.A. in Education, a B.A. in mathematics, and a California Teaching Credential. The program is affiliated with the Cuong Nhu Martial Arts Association, a federally recognized non-profit educational organization.

Students are asked to join the Cuong Nhu Martial Arts Association before their first rank test. Annual dues are $50 for individuals and $80 for families. The city of Oakland requests accommodation requests at least 10 days prior to an event.
