About
Coelho Epilepsy Youth Summer Camp offers a residential camping experience where campers get together for one week to enjoy the great outdoors and the friendships that come with a trip to camp. Campers usually check in early afternoon on the first day and depart around late morning on the last day.
• Ages: 9–17 years old
• Schedule: One-week residential session; campers usually check in early afternoon on the first day and depart around late morning on the last day.
Campers are supported around the clock by physicians and nurses specialized in epilepsy care, including a UCSF pediatric epileptologist, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, and nurses who all stay overnight at the camp with campers throughout the entire week, both day and night. Medication schedules are strictly controlled by nurses who ensure campers receive their proper medication each day. Transportation is not included, and parents are responsible for transportation to and from camp. Through generous donations, the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California is able to offer full and partial scholarships to campers and states that it has never turned down a child due to financial need. The application requires use of a Google account to upload several camp forms, takes about 40 minutes to complete, and applicants who do not have or cannot create a Google account may email for assistance and alternative methods to apply. Support groups connected with the foundation are facilitated by individuals with epilepsy.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California is a charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by epilepsy by helping them overcome day-to-day challenges, providing community support, and raising awareness through education to reduce stigma surrounding those with epilepsy. The foundation works with state and national representatives on legislation and advocacy and organizes awareness and fundraising events such as Walk 4 Epilepsy SF, Seize the Moment Run, Zoo Stroll for Epilepsy, and Gala. The organization has been awarded Gold Transparency on Candid (formerly GuideStar) for 2025.
