The Ojai Art Center opened its doors in 1939, and when it was dedicated in November 1939, it was named the Community Art Center of the Ojai Valley. Since it opened in 1939, its mission has been to support and advance the arts within its community. All Art Center programs and activities are overseen by the Board and by an Executive Director, Teri Mettala, who has served the Center for more than 40 years. The Ojai Art Center is the longest continuously operating multi-disciplinary center serving the arts in the State of California and has eight branches: Art, Dance, Film, Literary, Music, Photography, Theater, and Youth. The OAC is described as one of Ventura County's outstanding non-profit organizations. The Art Center collaborates with the Ojai Film Festival, the Ojai Film Society, the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy, the Ojai Humane Society, and the Ojai Library Foundation, and a considerable number of other local non-profit and arts-related organizations utilize the Center and its facilities for their events. The Center sponsors an annual Art in the Park fundraising event in Libbey Park over the Memorial Day Weekend, as well as the Great Art Theft and the Blues Festival.
