The Club is a youth and family-oriented nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the educational, vocational, social, and character development of boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 17. It offers programs that build self-esteem, social competencies, and positive values, and it operates with a vision to provide a world-class Club experience that keeps members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle. Programs operate Monday through Friday, with occasional special activities planned for weekends and holidays, and membership is open to youth ages 6–17, with prospective members required to attend an orientation with their parent or guardian before joining. Membership applications are available online and in person, membership is described as affordable, financial aid is available for families in need, and no family in need will be turned away because a limited number of scholarships are available.

The Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley was established in 1966 and has been in its current facility since 1986. For over 50 years, the Club has been in the forefront of youth development in the impoverished community of Pacoima, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social, and family circumstances. The organization reports over 2000 active members, 75 or more volunteers, more than 100 community partners, and over $6.5 million in donations and grants. The playground was built on March 21, 2009 by 500 community volunteers and was sponsored by KaBOOM!, Chrysler Financial, Chrysler Foundation, and the Dodge Ram Challenge winner, Robert Nowaczyk.

The Club describes having a core of career professionals who are culturally sensitive and trained to provide leadership through informal and formal guidance, using individual and small group experiences. In partnership with the community, its mission is to inspire and empower all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens living healthy lifestyles. The organization also highlights a new podcast that is produced by, features, and is created by Club members.

Parents describe their experiences in several testimonials. One parent, Martha P., notes that her children enjoy cooking class, parent night, ballet, tap, arts and crafts, field trips, camp, and talent shows. Another parent, Sarah B., shares that sending her child to camp provided him with chances to visit new places, meet new friends, learn new games, and share new experiences with staff, and she thanks the Club for providing positive role models and values. Parents Johannes L. and Lorena A. state that there are very few places in the valley where they feel safe entrusting the care and education of their child, and they describe the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley as a beacon for many families, including their own.
