SF Athletics Youth Basketball includes youth basketball teams and the SF Athletics Pee Wee Clinic, with a focus on basketball fundamentals. Teams compete primarily in either the Crescent Bay Optimist Invitational Sports League (CBO) or the Japanese American Optimist Girls Invitational Basketball League (JAO). The SF Athletics Pee Wee Clinic is described as a high energy clinic for Kinder and 1st grade kids that want to improve their basketball skills and make new friends.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: League games typically run 8–10 games from the first week of November to mid-February on Sundays between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with additional JAO games running 8–10 games from January through March, and the Pee Wee Clinic meeting on four Sundays in July 2026
Kinder and 1st grade teams participate in the CBO League's Sure Shot division. Starting in 2nd grade, boys teams compete in CBO and girls teams compete in JAO. SF Athletics Player Registration is for boys and girls in grades Kindergarten through 12th, and new player sign up starts July 01, 2025.
The program is connected to the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center, whose mission is to preserve the Japanese culture and to promote the Japanese American experience through education, events, and activities for the community. The San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center is a non-profit organization recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS under Section 501(c)(3).
