Laity Institute of the Arts is a non-profit private organization founded in 1989 and operates as Laity Theatre Company DBA Laity Institute of the Arts. It was founded with the dreams of Jim and Delayna Goins, a husband-and-wife team. The program grew to include adults and became known as a company of professionals who served the community through artistic and educational means. Its instructors are professional artists and educators dedicated to teaching the skills that matter. The Laity Institute of the Arts provides results-oriented education in acting, animation, art, dance, and music, and is described as a formation institute that develops disciplined, creative students through Truth and Excellence in the arts. Its stated goal since founding has been to give students of all ages and skill levels a chance to explore their creativity through the arts, which, in turn, will affect other areas of their lives. Laity Arts is described as a vibrant community that embraces and celebrates diverse gifts, passions, and intelligence, and teachers help develop students’ social and cultural interaction skills and elevate their artistic awareness. LIA continues to specialize in direct, meaningful instruction and confidence-building through the visual and performing arts as supplemental education for children after school, and Laity Arts offers a safe, fun, professional environment. Laity is described as unique in its creation, with no boundaries and no single set of walls containing it, and students do not have to attend specific schools, districts, or charter organizations to enroll. Laity is a proud grant recipient and serves Los Angeles area youth and the broader community through artistic and educational means, including public, charter, and private education.
