About

Summer Camp at Athena Academy includes reading, writing, math, and engineering and building innovative design projects. Campers work on real-world projects such as creating a tiny home for a client with specific needs, developing mood boards, drafting blueprints, calculating measurements and budgets, building 3D models, and presenting their final projects. In past sessions, students have designed and built Tiny Houses and created Food Truck businesses from concept to launch, using multi-sensory and project-based instruction with morning Language Arts and math sessions connected to a weekly theme and afternoon hands-on design challenges.

Summer Camp at Athena Academy is an academic camp specially designed for dyslexic and twice-exceptional children entering grades 1–7 and uses a specialized curriculum built on visual-spatial strengths. Each week is built around a real-world theme using the Project Based Learning framework from PBLWorks, and students collaborate, think critically, revise their work, and push through challenges. The program’s mission states that when children feel confident about how they learn, they do better in school, and that tailoring teaching methods to a child’s strengths creates academic breakthroughs that build confidence, reduce anxiety, inspire learning, and prepare them for future success.

One parent of a 3rd grade child shared that their child learned reading, writing, and math strategies that they still use, enjoyed the small classes, and came home talking about how much fun they had at Summer at Athena Academy. A parent of a 7th grade child reported that, after trying several summer programs, this was the only one their child came home from smiling and excited to return, and that their child was learning while getting to know like-minded kids and teachers who understood her. Another parent of a 3rd grade child said their son looks forward to camp every year, has many positive things to say afterward, and experiences many hands-on learning activities. A parent of a 5th grade child noted that their daughter has attended summer school at Athena for a couple of years, always enjoys it, and that the teachers were amazing.
