Tides Afterschool and Homeschool Marine Biology Program offers weekly lessons that include outdoor learning, nature-journaling, note-taking, art, reading, and beach play. During each class, students use nature journals to learn about marine creatures, marine plants, birds, tide pools, ecosystems, and sustainability in a hands-on, exploratory learning environment. Classes are held in small groups of up to 14 students per group.
• Ages: 6–13 years old
• Schedule: Year-long program with Fall and Spring semesters; homeschool sessions are 3 hours and after-school sessions are 2 hours
Tides Afterschool and Homeschool Marine Biology Program includes Homeschool Tides sessions that are three hours long, with Tides Malibu on Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and Tides Palos Verdes on Wednesdays from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The after-school Tides option is two hours long, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM on a weekday to be determined based on student interest. The program runs as a year-long offering with a Spring Semester ’26 of 18 weeks from January 8 to May 22, with days off from March 30 to April 3 and weather make-up weeks from May 25 to 29 and June 1 to 5. The Fall Semester ’26 is 15 weeks from August 24 to December 11, with days off from November 23 to 27 and a weather make-up week from December 14 to 19.
Tides Afterschool and Homeschool Marine Biology Program is led by a biologist head teacher and an assistant teacher who have experience teaching children about marine biology.
