Colors of Spanish

Colors of Spanish offers Spanish immersion through literature and creative expression, using storytelling, discussion, movement, art, collaborative activities, music, interactive language games, story immersion, vocabulary in context, creative projects, and time for reflection or sharing. Each week centers around a featured Spanish children’s book that anchors the learning experience, with Spanish as the primary language used and visual and contextual support to support comprehension and confidence. Groups are intentionally kept small, and the program is described as a literature-based Spanish immersion experience that focuses on listening, speaking, vocabulary development, cultural exploration, and artistic expression.

Colors of Spanish was founded in Sonoma County in 2004. The Spanish Immersion Program is described as a playful Spanish immersion experience where children learn through music, stories, games, and creative exploration, and Cuentos con Ritmo is described as a joyful, high-energy experience where children and families sing, move, and explore Spanish together. Students should bring a snack, a water bottle, and comfortable clothing suitable for art and movement activities.

Colors of Spanish supports families, schools, and organizations in fostering meaningful Spanish language learning from an early age through programs that integrate music, movement, and storytelling, with a mission that includes language development, cultural connection, and whole-child growth. Programs are designed by experienced bilingual educators, and the program supports beginners, heritage speakers, and students with prior exposure through scaffolded instruction and contextual learning. Colors of Spanish partners with schools, libraries, and community organizations, offering Spanish Music & Movement throughout Sonoma County Library locations, live in-person Spanish Music & Movement each Thursday at the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County, and art programs at Art Escape in Sonoma Valley, alongside other community partners.

The leadership team includes Guadalupe Tausch (Co-Founder and Director, Colors of Spanish), Randy Tausch (Co-Founder and Operations Director, Colors of Spanish), Ofelia Arteaga (Associate Director of Cuentos con Ritmo), Cristina Ruíz (early childhood educator), and Nathalia Caceres (educator with a degree in Physical Education, Sports, and Recreation). Guadalupe is a Spanish early literacy specialist with more than 20 years of experience teaching children and training educators, holds a Master’s degree in Spanish, and has advanced training in second language pedagogy and children’s literature. Cristina is an early childhood educator with a certificate in Waldorf education. Nathalia holds a degree in Physical Education, Sports, and Recreation, with a pedagogical focus on movement and music as key tools for early childhood development, and as a certified Zumba instructor since 2021, she integrates rhythm and movement to enhance coordination, attention, and active listening.

Parent feedback includes comments such as, “My daughter had such a great time this morning. She absolutely loved your class. We’re signing up for the entire summer!!” from Heather, mother of S. Another parent, Annie, mother of E., shared that she is grateful to attend camp online, describing the instructor’s energy as fun and creative within Zoom, and noting that having lyrics is helpful so she and her daughter can sing the songs together and that music is a good way to get the language incorporated. Rebecca, mother of M. and H., shared that both children are enjoying their time in the program and that she is happy the program has continued in this manner so kids can still get the exposure it provides.
