For Ages: 10+

Wed, Jun 17, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Join Emma Logan and her mother Laura Pierce for a warm, welcoming introduction to the timeless craft of traditional rug hooking. In this hands-on workshop, participants will create their own “mug rug”—a small, decorative coaster—using scrap fabric and embroidery hoops, while learning foundational techniques passed down through generations. Designed to demystify a craft that can feel intimidating or expensive, this experience reveals how accessible, creative, and deeply satisfying rug hooking can be. Along the way, you’ll connect with heritage skills, explore texture and color, and leave with a beautiful handmade piece. No prior experience needed.

This class is located in the classroom.

Teacher provides:

  • Linen, hoops, hooks, wool

About the Teachers:

Based in Petaluma, Laura Pierce and Emma Logan are a mother/daughter team with over 30 years of teaching experience between them. While Laura focuses on rug hooking and other fiber work, Emma’s art practice includes using clay, paper, and fiber materials to make sculpture and installation work. Both prioritize individual learning in their teaching styles and have worked collaboratively to run rug camps and one-day classes. Coming from a long line of makers, they are passionate about handicrafts and helping others learn new skills through projects designed to be accessible and inspirational for any level.
