Here's your chance to learn how to maneuver every kind of small boat there is, and to have fun exploring the Petaluma River with new friends and experienced instructors. Make the river your playground at last!

You'll learn how to kayak, canoe, paddleboard, row and pedal any kind of boat, board and water bike, and find out about the outrigger canoeing community too. Kids also get free time for exploring the waterway that gave our city life: the Petaluma River.

Camp includes a pedal-kayak outing, as well as an exploratory nature walk in Alman Marsh &/or Shollenberger Park with the Petaluma Wetlands Alliance, and a paddle outing with KaiWai Northbay Outrigger Canoe Club.

On alternate weeks, we also offer an Intro to Sailing Camp, which runs M-Th, 1:00-4:00 pm. Many families choose to enroll their kids in both camps, giving them a full experience of all the watercraft in The Floathouse fleet. If you'd like to enroll your kids in the sailing camp, we suggest you hurry, as they tend to sell out quickly.

Bring a hearty snack, extra clothes, towel, a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat. Water shoes or other closed-toe shoes are best. Glasses need to be secured with a Croakie or other keeper. On the last day of camp, Mess about in Boats Day, wear a swimming suit, bring a towel, and expect to go swimming. Most kids can't help themselves but dive right in! (Also bring a change of clothes if you like.)

The Floathouse Petaluma The Floathouse Petaluma

The Floathouse is a project of Petaluma Small Craft Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. We've been helping Petaluma turn toward the river since 2007! The Floathouse boat rental center opened in 2022, but we've been "putting butts in boats and smiles on faces" with summer camps and community boating events since the beginning. We love finding all kinds of ways to offer year-round Petaluma River access for all in people-powered boats. Join us!
