Small Boat Summer Camp at The Floathouse
The Floathouse, 50 Water Street, Petaluma, CA 94952
Here's your chance to learn how to maneuver every kind of small boat there is, and to have fun exploring the Petaluma River with new friends and experienced instructors. Make the river your playground at last!
You'll learn how to kayak, canoe, Stand Up Paddle, row and pedal any kind of boat, board and water bike, and be part of the community formed by outrigger canoeing—mentored by members of a local club. Just as importantly, kids have free time for exploring the waterway that gave our city life: the Petaluma River. Camp includes a pedal-kayak outing to Alman Marsh by the Petaluma Marina, a little wetlands learning, and an afternoon at the pool.
Campers are welcome to attend multiple sessions, and kids 11 and up who want to spend the whole day on the water can combine this with our Intro to Sailing Camp, which runs M-Th, 1 pm-4 pm.
Bring a hearty snack, extra clothes, towel, a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat. Water shoes or other closed-toe shoes are best. Glasses need to be secured with a croakie or other keeper. On Pool Day, we'll ask you to bring a swimming suit.

The Floathouse, 50 Water Street, CA 94952The Floathouse is a project of Petaluma Small Craft Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. We've been helping Petaluma turn toward the river since 2007! The Floathouse boat rental center opened in 2022, but we've been putting butts in boats and smiles on faces with summer camps and community boating events since the beginning. We love finding all kinds of ways to offer year-round Petaluma River access for all in people-powered boats. Join us!
