Camp Awesome®
Camp Awesome – Playa Del Rey Beach, 6677 Pacific Ave, Playa Del Rey, CA 90293
About
Camp Awesome offers full days of beach play, water time, ocean time, crafts, games, beach games, and other water activities. Campers can take part in team games, challenges, leadership moments, and creative arts and crafts, along with socializing in the sun and sand. The program also includes snack times during the camp day.
• Ages: 4–13 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00am–4:00pm, with optional extended hours in summer 2026
• Price: $30 one-time household membership; MINI (ages 4–6) $100/day, PLUS (ages 7–11) $90/day, PRO (ages 12–13) $75–$80/day, with optional add-ons and discounts as listed
Camp Awesome is organized into MINI (ages 4–6), PLUS (ages 7–11), and PRO (ages 12–13) groups, with smaller groups and extra support for MINI and more independence with supervision for PRO. Activities are choice-based, so campers are not required to stay in one activity and can pick from multiple options throughout the day. Families can purchase camp by the day instead of by the week, and there are optional Pizza Fridays, an ice cream truck that usually stops by daily, and optional Beyond the Beach field trips for an additional fee. The camp uses the Brightwheel app for camper check-in and check-out, and offers optional extended hours at an additional daily cost. Early registration by April 30, 2026, gives a discount per camp day, and there are promo codes for larger orders, with some restrictions.
All staff are background checked and CPR and First Aid trained, and Camp Awesome is certified through LA County Beaches & Harbors. The Playa del Rey site supervisor is James O’Brien, and the Redondo Beach site supervisor is Diana Banuelos. The mission of Camp Awesome states that it is a beach camp built for happy kids and parents who want an easy, stress-free summer, with ocean air, movement, friendships, and beach days, and that the team keeps things supportive, flexible, and welcoming so families feel confident choosing the program. One parent shared that “the flexibility is great,” another said their family travels from San Francisco to Los Angeles every summer so their children can attend Camp Awesome, and another quoted their 8-year-old saying “Camp Awesome is TOTALLY AWESOME.”
Families of campers who require an EpiPen are asked to clearly label belongings, note where the medication is located, and remind staff at drop-off each day, since staff cannot administer or store medication. Parents are asked to apply sunscreen before arrival; staff do not apply sunscreen but build in breaks and remind campers to reapply, and the camp recommends zinc-based sunscreen, a hat, and sun-protective clothing for fair skin. For the ice cream truck, families can send $2–$3 in a sealed bag, and campers are responsible for their own money because staff cannot hold cash. On Pizza Fridays, camp provides only the pizza lunch, so families may pack any extra drinks or snacks they want their child to have.
