About
Camp Awesome offers beach-based days that include play, games, team games, challenges, and leadership moments. Campers take part in creative arts and crafts, crafts, water games, water time, ocean time, and beach games, along with social time and socializing in the sun and sand. Days also include snacks, shade breaks, beach play, and a beach clean-up activity.
• Ages: 4–13 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00am–4:00pm from June 8–August 14, 2026, with optional extended hours at some locations
• Price: One-time $30 household membership; daily rates of $100 for MINI (ages 4–6), $90 for PLUS (ages 7–11), and $80 for PRO (ages 12–13), with optional add-ons and promo code discounts as described
All Camp Awesome staff are background checked and CPR and First Aid trained, and the camp is certified through LA County Beaches & Harbors. Programs are divided into MINI (ages 4–6) with smaller groups and extra support, PLUS (ages 7–11), and PRO (ages 12–13) with more independence and supervision. The program uses a choice-based structure where campers are not required to stay in one activity and can pick from options like games, crafts, and water time. Families purchase a one-time membership per household, then select individual camp days, with the option to purchase by the day instead of by the week and adjust camp days later. Optional features include Pizza Fridays for $5, an ice cream truck that usually stops by daily for $2–$3 cash, early registration discounts per camp day, and optional extended hours at Playa del Rey for an additional daily fee.
Camp Awesome uses the Brightwheel app for camper check-in and check-out, and parents can message camp staff and manage approved pick-ups through the app. The mission statement describes Camp Awesome as a beach camp built for happy kids and parents who want an easy, stress-free summer, with a focus on ocean air, movement, friendships, and beach days, and a team that keeps things supportive, flexible, and welcoming so families feel confident choosing the program. The Playa del Rey site supervisor is James O’Brien, and the Redondo Beach site supervisor is Diana Banuelos. Testimonials from parents describe the camp’s flexibility, note that some families travel from out of town so their children can attend, and report that children enjoy splashing in the waves with staff and describe Camp Awesome as “TOTALLY AWESOME.”
For campers who require an EpiPen, families are asked to clearly label belongings, note where the medication is located, and remind staff at drop-off each day, as staff do not hold or administer medication. Parents are asked to apply sunscreen before arrival; staff do not apply sunscreen but build in breaks and remind campers to reapply, and the camp recommends zinc-based sunscreen, hats, rash guards, and lightweight pants for sun protection. For the ice cream truck, campers may bring $2–$3 cash in a sealed bag and are responsible for their own money, and families are asked to pack any extra drinks or snacks they want in addition to Pizza Fridays.
