High Desert Leapin' Lizards State Preschool Programs offers free half-day preschool programs for children who have had their third birthday before enrollment. High Desert Leapin' Lizards is a non-profit organization founded in Ridgecrest, California in 1995 and is described as a human health and welfare organization governed by a Board of Directors. The mission of High Desert Leapin' Lizards is to provide quality services and resources that support youth and families in the community, with goals to enrich the lives of the kids and families who participate in its programs and to support the capacity to increase resources and services for families within the community. High Desert Leapin’ Lizards has strong partnerships with Sierra Sands Unified School District, Cerro Coso Community College, and Naval Air Warfare Center and its Educational Partnership agreements and staff. High Desert Leapin' Lizards was awarded the Jhumki Basu Foundation Special Focus Award for the Partnering for Excellence: Innovations in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education competition.
Open Enrollment for State Preschools for the 2025–2026 school year is June 9, 2025 to June 20, 2025, and applications for preschool enrollment will be available April 14, 2025. Returning and new families will need to fill out an application for preschool, and if the student is eligible for Kindergarten, enrollment to Sierra Sands Unified School District will have to happen. High Desert Leapin’ Lizards states that it intends to serve all families that require care, and a two-week processing timeline may be needed to hire additional staff. Applications submitted will be considered in the order received according to the priorities listed on the form.

Applications for Afterschool are available to all sites on April 14, 2025. The initial ASES/ELOP enrollment period for the 2025–2026 school year is May 5, 2025 to May 27, 2025, and the second ASES/ELOP enrollment period is May 27 to June 30, 2025.
