The program also offers professional development for teachers and can customize programs to meet S.T.E.A.M. requirements that align with a school’s technology education objectives. The company was officially launched outside of the classroom in 2015, after beginning as a graduate student project in a classroom as part of the Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship (I.E.C.E).
Kids That Code operates STEAM Centers described as interactive learning centers that combine technology, education, and fun in a safe space where kids can learn and experience many technology topics. The program offers a Homework Assistance Hour and states a commitment to each child’s learning, as well as a focus on preparing youth for careers of the future. Kids That Code employs specialized instructors and staff, and states that staff are knowledgeable and caring and are background checked by the FBI and DOJ.
Parent feedback includes reports of children enjoying summer and winter camps and Saturday classes, along with positive comments about the instructors and staff. Parents describe the staff as friendly, the program as informational, and note a low ratio of students to instructors that allows for small group and one-on-one direction during learning. Multiple parents state that their children were excited after each day, wanted to return to future sessions, and rated the experience highly.
