About
Riverside County Office of Education Head Start and Early Head Start offers comprehensive center-based and home-based preschool options for children and their families. The program uses a research-based curriculum that addresses Approaches to Learning, Social and Emotional Development, Language and Literacy Development, Mathematics and Science, Creative Arts, and Perceptual, Motor and Physical Development. Children enrolled in the program receive developmental, medical, dental, vision, hearing, and nutritional screenings with appropriate follow-up services, and they are provided with nutritious meals and snacks, with accommodations for special nutritional needs when feasible.

• Schedule: Part-day classes of 3.5 hours, full-day classes of 6.5 hours, and weekly 1.5-hour home-based visits
Programs are staffed by professional educators, Community Assistants, and content experts in health, nutrition, mental health, disability, and family services. The Riverside County Office of Education is a Head Start grantee and provides Head Start and Early Head Start through sites it operates directly and through 11 delegate school district agencies. The program is committed to enrolling children with disabilities by reserving 10 percent of its enrollment for children with disabilities and allowing over-income waivers limited to 10 percent of total enrollment for children who have a current Individualized Family Services Program for Early Head Start or an Individualized Education Program for Head Start. Two socializations are offered each month for all enrolled children and their parents in the Home-Based option, and priority points for full-day classes are awarded to parents working or attending school or training full time. The program is now accepting applications for the 2025–26 program year, which will begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and requires specific documents to determine eligibility, including age and immunization verification, TB assessment or test results, income verification, and other documentation when applicable.
