Adventure Recreation’s mission is “to empower children to grow physically and emotionally by building their confidence one skill at a time,” and it states that this happens through Tumble & Warrior Class, Camps, Open Gyms, Day Camps, Micro-School, Kids Night Out and more in a “safe and welcoming environment where kids of all ages and abilities can learn and thrive.” For drop-off programs, children are asked to be potty trained and at least 4 years old, and Kids Night Out is for ages 4 and up. The program notes an emphasis on confidence, community, creativity, progression, leadership, and fun, and offers an Xcel team started in 2023 for athletes who want to compete without the extra pressure and time of a Junior Olympic program.

Coach Andrea leads Adventure Recreation as the gym owner and leader, and she is described as an entrepreneur, coach, and community spokesperson. She graduated from Humboldt State University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Recreation Administration and a Minor in Business, bought Athletics Unlimited at age 26 and operated it for five years, ran toddler programs, gymnastics, and Ninja Warrior from 2012 to 2017, then focused more on recreational gymnastics and Ninja Warrior from 2017, started an Xcel team in 2023, and during Covid led and developed an alternative elementary school program for first through sixth grade. The coaching staff includes Coach Laini, who competed as an Xcel Platinum gymnast; Coach Ella, who competed at a high level of Junior Olympics Level 10; Coach Rayan, who has years of Martial Arts experience; Coach Makena, who grew up in the gym while her mom Andrea coached; Coach Aya, who loves wrestling and soccer and is a Real Madrid fan; and Coach Josie, who loves fishing.

Adventure Recreation is described as having a community vibe within Somo Village, with nearby amenities where parents are encouraged to visit SOMOfit or Old Caz Brewery while kids attend programs. One parent, A. McCall, says, “My daughter has grown up with Adventure Recreation. She feels supported and challenged by the great coaching staff. We love the flexibility of classes when our schedules are busy during other sports seasons. Highly recommend for kids that love to tumble and want to learn to do skills properly!” Another parent, A. Hillstead, shares, “Our three children have been going to Adventure Rec for years. We’ve done it all—tumble classes, ninja classes, explore time, summer camps, etc. and my kids can’t get enough. Their coaches are super friendly and fun. I especially appreciate that they have enough class time offerings to overlap my children’s different classes on the same hour. Highly recommend.”
