About
Maryvale Early Childhood Education offers hands-on, play-based learning that includes language and early literacy development, math and early science exploration, creative art and expressive play, and physical development and motor skills. Children take part in individualized instruction and small group learning, with language and literacy supported through books, storytelling, and conversation. The program includes early math concepts through hands-on exploration and manipulatives, creative expression through art, music, and movement, science through exploration of nature and everyday materials, physical development through active play and coordination, and social learning through cooperative play and role exploration.

Maryvale Early Childhood Education is part of Maryvale, which was founded in 1856 and is recognized as Los Angeles County’s oldest children’s charity, serving youth and families for over 170 years. The program follows a family-centered care model that views families as essential partners in each child’s learning journey and offers year-round, consistent, and compassionate support tailored to each family’s needs. Maryvale’s Early Childhood Education programs support infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children, working families and caregivers, families seeking licensed, high-quality early education, and communities across the San Gabriel Valley and greater Los Angeles County.
The majority of Maryvale’s Early Childhood Education teachers hold an Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education and meet the requirements for the age groups they serve. All early childhood educators participate in ongoing professional development, including training in child development and early learning practices, First Aid and CPR, mandated reporting, health and safety procedures, curriculum implementation and assessments, and Maryvale policies and procedures. All staff complete the required background screening and fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice and the FBI before employment, with ongoing oversight by Community Care Licensing.
Maryvale operates Early Childhood Education Centers across three locations, serving infants through preschool-age children, with programs that provide high-quality care for infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children across Los Angeles County. The centers create safe, supportive learning environments, and the approach focuses on developmentally appropriate instruction that encourages curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning. The curriculum supports social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development through intentional and engaging learning experiences, and many programs offer subsidized preschool options for eligible families. The Rosemead Early Education Center was established in 1968 and is licensed by Community Care Licensing, a division of the California Department of Social Services. The Duarte campus opened in 2011 and offers early learning programs for children from birth through age 5, and before- and after-school programs for school-age children. The South El Monte Early Education Center was established in 2024, is licensed by Community Care Licensing, and serves children from two through five years of age.
Maryvale is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) and has been named California Nonprofit of the Year. Maryvale operates across Rosemead, Duarte, and South El Monte, partnering with schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations to expand access to care throughout Los Angeles County, and expands partnerships with Shower of Hope to support college students experiencing housing insecurity through temporary housing assistance and mental health services. The organization’s mission is: “With loving and compassionate hearts, we seek to heal, educate, and empower those who need us most, lifting up one individual, one family, one community at a time.”
Parents and community members describe their experiences with Maryvale in several ways. One Early Childhood Education parent of a 2‑year‑old said, “I was so excited to enroll my son. I already have my daughter here, and I knew I wanted my son to be here too.” Another Early Childhood Education parent of a 3‑year‑old shared, “I can’t imagine Marisol attending another preschool.” A parent of two children in Early Childhood Education said, “Maryvale isn’t just an education center. It became a second family for my kids.” A field representative from the Office of Assemblymember Mike Fong, 49th District, described Maryvale as “a hidden gem in the San Gabriel Valley.”
