• Schedule: The 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup is scheduled for November 15–16, with a preliminary group stage of three games per team, including 2 games on Saturday and 1 game on Sunday.
Cal North was established in 1969 by Donald Greer, and the organization later served as the prototype for other state soccer associations and for the formation of US Youth Soccer in 1974, also founded by Donald Greer. The mission of Cal North is for its Nine Districts to lead world class membership support with resources to help members reach their goals as leaders in Northern California. Cal North is a fusion of more than 250 leagues and clubs, over 30,000 coaches and administrators, and more than 125,000 players and their parents involved in the promotion of soccer and the development of future generations.
The leadership team includes Executive Director Marley Wilson, Creative Director Javier Arellano, Managing Director of Coaching Education & ODP Joyce Bordley, Technical Director of Coaching Education Jeremy Williams, Business Operations Manager Devon Yoakam, and district administrators Amin Fazal (District 2), Fred Wilson (District 3/4), Tyler Darke (Assistant District 3/4), Dane Denkers (District 5), Linda Sorelle (District 7), and Shanon Gallant (District 8). Jeremy Williams is a U.S. Soccer Coach Educator who holds a USSF A License and a United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma, serves as Technical Director of the Young Olympians Program and a State ODP Coach with Cal North, studied Biology and Geology at Portland State University, and holds a Master’s Degree in Education focused on curriculum design and assessment. Coach Dane Denkers holds a USSF Grassroots license and is working on his D License, and coach Devon Yoakam holds a B license.
Cal North is affiliated with US Youth Soccer and is the qualifier pathway for US Youth Soccer regional and national competitions through the Cal North State Cup. Cal North is the only state association in the country that is a league operator of MLS NEXT. The organization offers both grassroots programming and competitive playing opportunities at regional and national levels, emphasizes a “kids first” vision, and includes programs for elite, competitive, recreational, and players with specialized needs. Cal North also offers Real Madrid Foundation Soccer Camps in cities including Fresno, Modesto, Palo Alto, Sacramento, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz.
Cal North partners with Soccer Without Borders to provide teams with competition opportunities through annual tournaments and ongoing leagues. Supporting partners for the 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup include Telemundo48, Stanford Medicine Children's Health, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Prime Hydration. One testimonial from the Clovis Junior Soccer League notes a 46-year relationship with Cal North and mentions the professionalism and support from the state office and staff. Another testimonial from Soccer Without Borders describes a 12-year partnership and highlights Cal North’s annual tournaments and ongoing leagues, including the Founder's Cup and Association Cup, as major events for recreational level teams. A third testimonial states that the team as a whole is more important than any individual player and that when the team succeeds, everyone succeeds.
For the 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup, no dogs or other animals are allowed on the premises, no food or drink is allowed on the turf, and alcohol and weapons are strictly prohibited. Parking will be available free of charge, and restrooms will be available at various sports complexes and fields. Teams are required to check in on the field before match kick-off with the referee, using the roster template provided to all teams in previous emails.
