Cal North Youth Soccer Programs offer soccer through grass-roots recreational programs, competitive and recreational soccer, and youth soccer competitions. Players can take part in competitive playing opportunities such as the Cal North Competitive Soccer League (CCSL), California Select League (CSL), Cup Series events, and regional and national competitions linked to the Cal North State Cup. Additional activities include the Olympic Development Program (ODP), Young Olympians Program, TOPSoccer, Kick'N It Summer Program, Get On The Bus, MLS NEXT, various District Cups, Founder's Cup, Association Cup, Presidents Cup, State Cup, and the Junior Cup Festival.

Cal North Youth Soccer Programs were established in 1969 by Donald Greer, and Cal North (then CYSA) served as the prototype and predecessor for other state soccer associations and for the formation of US Youth Soccer in 1974, also founded by Donald Greer. Cal North notes over 50 years of experience. The organization’s mission states a “kids first” vision and a commitment to offering a program that works for every level of player across its Nine Districts in Northern California.
Cal North is the only state association in the country that operates as a league operator of MLS NEXT. The Cal North State Cup is the qualifier for US Youth Soccer regional and national competitions. Cal North College is described as a resource to give members tools to succeed in a modern soccer landscape. Cal North also notes a comprehensive set of member benefits along with health and safety protocols in California, including Live Scan, background check, SafeSport, and support for injury claims.
The leadership team includes Marley Wilson (Executive Director), Javier Arellano (Creative Director), Joyce Bordley (Coaching Education & ODP, Managing Director), Jeremy Williams (Technical Director of Coaching Education), Devon Yoakam (Business Operations Manager), Dane Denkers (Director of Membership), and Linda Sorelle (District 7 Administrator). Jeremy Williams is a U.S. Soccer Coach Educator who holds a USSF A License and a United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma, serves as Technical Director of the Young Olympians Program and a State ODP Coach with Cal North, played collegiately at North Idaho College and Portland State University, studied Biology and Geology, began coaching during college, and holds a Master’s Degree in Education focused on curriculum design and assessment. Dane Denkers holds a U.S. Soccer Federation C License, is pursuing his B License, is on track to become a U.S. Soccer Grassroots Coach Educator prior to the Fall 2026 season, and graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a degree in Kinesiology.
Cal North describes a community that includes 250+ leagues and clubs, 30,000+ coaches and administrators, and 125,000+ players and their parents. The organization partners with Soccer Without Borders, providing that group’s teams with competition opportunities and accommodating the needs of teams made up of recently arrived refugee and immigrant students. Supporting partners for the 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup include Telemundo48, Stanford Medicine Children's Health, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Prime Hydration.
For the 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup, parking will be available and free of charge, and restrooms will be available at various sports complexes and fields. Awards at this event will be given to tournament champions and finalists only, with champions receiving a medal and a team trophy and finalists receiving a medal. Event rules for the 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup state that no dogs or other animals are allowed on the premises, no food or drink is allowed on the turf, and alcohol and weapons are strictly prohibited, with any team found with alcohol or weapons risking disqualification from the tournament.
