California Police Activities League Youth Programs are run by a leadership team that includes Jennifer Lopez, Executive Director; Bryan Ferreira, Director of Operations; Kenny Alvarado, Board President; Sgt. Juan Martinez, Vice-President; Liz Espinosa, Secretary; Barbara Kalmus, Board Member; Lindsay Garner, Board Member; and Katrice Moore, Board Member. Since 1971, the California Police Activities League has worked to foster positive relationships and build bonds between youth and law enforcement. Its mission is to unite law enforcement and communities by providing educational, athletic and life enriching youth programs that develop discipline, positive self-image, mutual trust and respect. California PAL is a membership-based organization that provides mentorship, athletic, recreational, enrichment and educational opportunities and resources to Police Activities League (PAL), Sheriff Activities League (SAL) and Youth Activities League (YAL) member chapters in California, and collaborates with Educate California, AKALA, LiUNA, Be A Mentor, and the Beau Biden Foundation. GuideStar awarded California PAL the Platinum Seal of Transparency in 2021, and the Annual Training Conference is POST certified. Unique elements include state-level educational, athletic, leadership development and enrichment programs for PAL youth throughout California, youth sport competitions, outdoor recreation programs connected with at-promise youth, a College and Career Preparedness Collaborative Model with year-long services following the LAHS Conference, the California PAL Youth Pre-Apprenticeship Readiness Model (California PAL YARA program) to connect youth with construction trades’ apprenticeship pathways, Shield of Protection program training from the Beau Biden Foundation, and an Annual Members Training Conference that uses a Universal Community Policing approach to build community bonds.
