Sacramento Republic FC Youth Programs centers on the Republic FC Youth Development Academy, which offers a training environment for youth players. The Academy competes in MLS NEXT, the highest level of youth soccer in North America, and participates in league matches, friendly matches, and U.S. Open Cup matches. It is the only youth-to-pro pathway in the Sacramento region, and Academy players have represented the club’s first team in league, friendly, and U.S. Open Cup matches.

Republic FC launched its Youth Development Academy in 2015. Since then, Academy players have signed 8 first team professional contracts with Republic FC and 22 contracts with other professional teams. Academy players have signed 60 Division I college soccer commitments, and 10 Academy coaches have moved into professional coaching jobs. Academy players have been called into National Team programs 68 times, with 15 selections to National Team rosters, and have represented their nations on Youth National Teams.
The Academy’s stated program objectives include implementing a clear club culture and identity, delivering an optimal learning environment to maximize individual and team development, continually increasing internal competition to raise the overall standard of play, providing external competition to challenge players through adverse experiences, accelerating high-potential players through individualized programming, and offering an integrated pathway to become a professional. MLS NEXT, the league in which the Academy competes, effectively replaced the U.S. Soccer Development Academy system that operated from 2007 to 2020, has attracted 133 local clubs, and is home to 90% of U.S. Soccer’s national team player pool. MLS NEXT states that it provides the best player development experience in North America and is founded on a collaborative approach to governance and a commitment to innovation, with training and competition intended to prepare players for their futures in soccer and in life.
