About
The Actor's Workshop offers scene study classes, private coaching, and specialty classes on subjects such as on camera acting and audition preparation. The program also offers Zoom sessions. The Actor's Workshop describes its space as a safe, supportive environment for both professional and beginning actors of all ages to focus on their work and find their own personal voice and process.
Elisabeth Nunziato teaches at The Actor's Workshop and works professionally in theater and film as both an actor and director, with a broad skill set and sensitivity to actor training. Ms. Nunziato has a stated passion for private coaching and group training and is described as both relentless and loving in that work. Founder Edward (Ed) Claudio is a founding member of two Equity theatre companies, the Fantasy Theatre for Children (now the B Street Touring Company) and the B Street Theatre, and is a member of SAG-AFTRA who has appeared in many films for all three major networks as well as HBO and Showtime. Over a theatrical career that began in the mid-1960s, Ed Claudio has portrayed more than 150 characters and produced and/or directed more than 200 plays. The Actor’s Workshop was established by Ed Claudio three decades ago; he founded the Actors Workshop in 1989 and The Actors Theatre of Sacramento in 1997.
The Actor's Workshop states that it exists solely to provide a safe, supportive environment to both professional and beginning actors of all ages to pursue their craft and that it is committed to the well-being and advancement of its students. The program emphasizes scene study as the “beating heart” of the Actor’s Studio and offers private coaching for audition preparation and monologue work, as well as occasional specialty classes on topics like on camera acting and audition prep. Instruction includes technical guidance in acting techniques such as voice, movement, and characterization, with a focus on emotional strength, vulnerability, and self-expression in a safe environment. The Actor's Workshop also provides honest and constructive criticism to build confidence and offers industry insight, including audition techniques and understanding the business side of acting. Zoom sessions are available for remote participation.
Students from The Actor’s Workshop have continued their training at programs such as Juilliard, CalArts, Mike Nichols's New Actor's Workshop in New York City, Circle in the Square, and Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television. Former students have worked at regional theaters including The Actor's Theatre of Louisville, ACT in San Francisco, The Milwaukee Repertory Company, The B Street Theatre, Sacramento Theatre Company, California Music Theatre, and the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ed Claudio is the recipient of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission’s Arts Educator Award and Sacramento Area Regional Theatre's Lifetime Achievement Award. A testimonial from Danielle Moné Truitt, star of Law & Order: Organized Crime, states that Elisabeth Nunziato has a way of seeing what is already inside a student and bringing it out so they can shine in an authentic way when performing, and that her coaching has made this student more confident and pushed her to heights she did not know she could reach.
