The Bob Hoover Academy SAFE Flight Program operates under the mission statement “Using the Power of Flight to Change Lives.” The program uses a bold and brave approach to S.T.E.M. education for teens and uses the power of flight as an educational tool. It is part of the SAFE Flight program under the Monterey County Office of Education Career Technical Education portfolio and operates through private donations. The Bob Hoover Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The Bob Hoover Academy SAFE Flight Program is led by founder Sean D. Tucker, who is described as an aviation legend and virtuoso air show performer, and by Eric Tucker, who is a corporate pilot for Clif Bar. Bob Hoover, for whom the academy is named, was an air show pilot, United States Air Force test pilot, and fighter pilot.
Bob Hoover Academy (BHA) exclusively partners with the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) by offering various aviation opportunities to their Alternative Education high school transportation program. BHA has partnered with the MCOE Alternative Education Department to create the SAFE Flight program under the umbrella of their Career Technical Education portfolio.
A student testimonial states, “The Bob Hoover Academy changed my life forever. Prior to attending BHA I had no knowledge of flying. In my 2 years at BHA I have accumulated a wealth of knowledge in class, on field trips, and on the airfield. The BHA helped guide me into being the best form of myself possible on the ground and in the air.” Another testimonial from Harrison Ford states, “Our love for aviation, our respect for the legacy of aviation, our understanding of what it can mean, is being used to bring these kids one by one, boys and girls, up to being productive, really strong people.”
