Gil Basketball Academy offers basketball camps, clinics, individual training, college tours, and field trips, along with travel experiences and international World Tours. The program also brings in motivational speakers as part of its activities.

Gil Basketball Academy was co-founded in 2009 by Jose Gil and Eva Silva and is led by Founder and Director Coach Jose Gil. It is a year-round academy serving more than 450 boys and girls ages 4 to 17. The academy is led by an all-volunteer team of coaches and administrators, and its nonprofit programs integrate youth development principles into every activity. Volunteer coaches are described as experienced trainers and mentors who model discipline, respect, and teamwork, and every coach shares the academy’s stated commitment to developing not only skilled players, but strong young leaders.
Coach Jose Gil is described as a decades-long basketball coach and athletic director at Alisal High School and a former Alisal High student-athlete. In 2025, Gil earned KSBW’s Golden Whistle Award, which recognizes outstanding high school coaches who have a meaningful, positive impact on their players’ lives and help transform them on and off the court. The academy’s mission states that it mentors and empowers East Salinas youth by building athletic skill, leadership, discipline, work ethic, and a lifelong commitment to their community.
