About

Play-Well TEKnologies Enrichment Programs offer LEGO-inspired engineering classes where students take part in an Engineering with LEGO enrichment program and use tens of thousands of LEGO pieces. In these classes, students explore concepts in physics, architecture, mechanical engineering, and structural engineering through design and building assignments, challenges, performance testing, competitions, and modifications to projects. Core programs for elementary students include Adventures in STEM and STEM Explorations, and additional options include Play-Well At-Home Videos, Summer Camps, and After School and Homeschool Classes.

• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Classes typically meet once per week before or after school for an entire quarter (Fall/Winter/Spring), and session duration is generally 90 minutes.
• Price: Pricing varies based on area, course being offered, number of sessions, etc.

Instructors have varied careers and educational backgrounds, including mechanical engineering, architecture, biology, art, geology, education, and civil engineering, and many of them have been leading classes and directing summer camps for several years. Each meeting starts with a short discussion and demonstration of the day’s topic, students work individually, in teams, and as a group, and all materials for the course are provided each week, with no LEGO pieces sent home after camp. The mission of Play-Well TEKnologies states that kids are already naturally gifted creators and that the program strives to provide an environment where students can create without fear of mistakes, explore fundamental STEM concepts through play, and express their creativity in ways they never thought possible. One testimonial notes that the Play-Well Engineering class was brought to a school and that a child “cannot wait to attend each week,” and other testimonials describe instructors as well-organized and fun, the program as strong regardless of instructor, and projects such as motorized cars, a double belt and double pulley driven gondola, a belt and pulley driven escalator, and a facsimile of an egg beater built at home after class. The leadership team includes President Tim Bowen, Vice President of Administration and Human Resources Meredith Bowen, Vice President of Operations Jennifer Gaona, Regional Managers Mike Spee, Michael Beddall, Tasha Rodriguez, and Chrissy Close, Office and Administrative Manager Devon Lee, and Program Manager for Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. Ilana Adler. LEGO, Duplo, Mindstorms, the LEGO logo, and the brick and knob configuration are trademarks of the LEGO Group, and these programs are not authorized, sponsored or endorsed by the LEGO Group.
