Tree Sprites

Tree Sprites is an outdoor, Waldorf-inspired farm preschool where children take part in activities such as baking bread, tending the garden, listening to stories, and nature-based crafts. Children may knead bread, gather herbs from the garden, celebrate festivals that honor light, harvest, and renewal, and join in circle time with songs and movement. The program includes stories, games, free play, gardening, nature walks, creative activities such as painting, baking, or seasonal crafts, planting seeds, feeding animals, outdoor exploration, mixed-age play, and handwork.

Tree Sprites describes its mission as “a Waldorf-inspired farm preschool nurturing the whole child” and as an outdoor preschool rooted in rhythm and nature, where children grow through outdoor exploration, mixed-age play, and the gentle rhythm of each day. The program states that creativity blossoms through story, song, and hands-on connection with the natural world, and that families are welcomed as part of the community, not just as observers, but as active participants in their child’s unfolding journey. Tree Sprites offers year-round opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive in nature, from preschool to summer adventures, and provides home-cooked, warm, nourishing organic meals that are described as simple, seasonal, and wholesome, along with real-life learning with rabbits, chickens, and gardens.

Tree Sprites accepts children aged two years and six months to five years old for preschool, and offers a Summer Camp for ages 2.5 to 10 years. The program is described as Waldorf-inspired and offers nature immersion every day, mixed-age play, and a community for parents.

Tree Sprites first blossomed in 2010 as a preschool, was transformed after three years into a Waldorf-inspired classroom for grades K–7, and in 2016 reopened its doors as a preschool again. The leadership team includes Teresa Walker (Founder and Lead Teacher at Tree Sprites, Director of SF Bay Area LifeWays North America), Todd Walker (Co-Founder & Early Childhood Guide), and Kacia Walker (Assistant Teacher & Story Guide). Teresa has completed both the Waldorf Teacher Training and the LifeWays Early Childhood Certification, and Kacia has completed the LifeWays Early Childhood Training.
