San Carlos Children’s Theater is a non-profit children and youth theater organization founded in 1990. Since its inception, it has produced more than 180 shows, trained more than 12,500 aspiring young actors, and entertained over 25,000 Bay Area families. Its mission is to educate youth on all aspects of theater production while nurturing creative expression, self-confidence, teamwork, and an appreciation for the arts.

The organization provides students ages 4–18 with theatrical experiences that include both performing arts and technical production. It focuses on fostering creative and critical thinking skills, developing leadership, building self-confidence, and teaching teamwork in a supportive, safe environment. The program emphasizes that the process is just as important for the student as the final production and supports each student’s imagination and creative goals to help them reach their full potential and develop a life-long love for the arts.

SCCT’s staff includes drama teaching artists, vocal directors, choreographers, and a part-time Technical Director, Costume Designer, Set Designer, Accountant, and Marketing Manager. The non-profit is led by an Executive Operations Director and an Executive Artistic Director, along with an all-volunteer Board of Directors.

San Carlos Children’s Theater is active in the community and provides theater training to students throughout the Peninsula. In addition to its independent performing arts programs, it offers after-school theater programs to public schools in San Carlos, Redwood City, and Belmont. Each year it hosts free family activities and participates in local community events such as San Carlos Hometown Days, the San Carlos Farmers Market, and Belmont’s Save the Music festival. Students are also encouraged to take on theater leadership roles through the Youth Advisory Board and by working as junior assistant directors or choreographers, technical crew assistants, or class and camp aides.
