About

AYSO Area 11R Youth Soccer Programs (including EPIC) offer youth soccer programs that include regular soccer games and the EPIC (Everyone Plays In our Communities) soccer program. The EPIC program includes special events such as the EPIC Fall Tournament and the EPIC Kick or Treat Tournament, where players take part in soccer activities and, at the Kick or Treat Tournament, carnival games and prizes. At these events, players and their families, along with volunteers, take part in the full AYSO experience, including team uniforms, scoring goals, and cheering from the sidelines.

• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: EPIC Fall Tournament on October 20th; EPIC Kick or Treat Tournament on October 27, 2024; Area 11R Area Monthly Meetings are typically held on the last Tuesday of the month.

The Mission of the AYSO EPIC Program is to provide a quality soccer experience for individuals whose disabilities make it difficult for them to successfully participate on a mainstream soccer team. EPIC Area 11R Regions offer a program for children with physical or mental disabilities, where buddies assist during games as players learn soccer skills while meeting new friends and having fun. The EPIC program states that it provides a safe, fun environment with trained coaches and volunteers.

AYSO’s stated philosophies for these programs are Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, and Player Development. Every player on every team must play at least 50 percent of every game, and each year new teams are formed to be as evenly balanced as possible. The program is open to all children who want to register and play soccer, with no elimination try-outs and no cuts, and AYSO requires coaches to create a positive experience for every boy and girl. Monthly Area 11R meetings are open to volunteers and parents.

The leadership team for AYSO Area 11R includes Area Director Jessica Thibedeau, Area Referee Administrator Bryan Rios, Area Treasurer Denver McClellan, Area CVPA Melissa Herzog, and Area Safety Director Ariana Veltre. Regional Commissioners include Bryan Rios for Kearny Mesa – Region 780, Derek Church for Mira Mesa – Region 285, Rachel Oechel for North Park – Region 785, Rob Swenson for San Elijo – Region 1505, James Morales for San Marcos – Region 127, and Marissa Carrasco-Radzicki for Tierrasanta – Region 152.

The EPIC Fall Tournament includes lunch from the In & Out trucks. The EPIC Kick or Treat Tournament features teams dressed in costumes and includes carnival games and prizes. AYSO partners with BEEUP Snacks as the Official Fruit Snack Partner for the 2025–2026 season. Additional partnerships include Chicago Public Schools to enhance youth sports programming, the US Center for Mental Health & Sport with a focus on player and volunteer wellness, and the Northland Sports Alliance to expand soccer programming in Kansas City. Stack Sports recognized Michael Karon, President of AYSO, with the Stack Leadership Award for his impact in the world of sports volunteering.
