About
Girls on the Run Bay Area offers running activities that lead up to completing a 5K at the end of the season. The program includes fun, evidence-based programs where trained coaches use physical activity and dynamic discussions to build social, emotional and physical skills while encouraging healthy habits for life. It offers a Girls on the Run program for grades 3–5 and a Heart & Sole middle school program for grades 6–8, with each program including fun and interactive lessons to meet the unique needs of participants of all abilities and backgrounds.
• Ages: 8–13 years old
Girls on the Run Bay Area serves girls in the five Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo. Girls on the Run has fun, evidence-based programs that inspire participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others. Heart & Sole considers the whole person — body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection — and offers an inclusive place of belonging, where girls feel supported and inspired to explore their emotions, cultivate empathy and strengthen their physical and emotional health. At the end of the season, the team in the Girls on the Run program completes a 5K together, and all Heart & Sole program participants complete a 5K. Girls on the Run reports that more than 2.25 million lives have been transformed in North America since 1996. One testimonial from Junior Coaches Kristen and Chelsea states, “It was at Girls on the Run that we found our own confidence and strength. The lessons teach that every girl is full of power and potential.”
