KEEN San Francisco offers inclusive recreation and fitness programs that focus on non-competitive activities and physical activity and fun. The program includes one-on-one, non-competitive recreation programs that accept every child, regardless of the nature or severity of their disability. Programs are open, unstructured, and non-competitive, and allow each athlete to find success and joy in an activity with the support of one-on-one interaction with volunteers.

KEEN San Francisco’s mission is to empower youth with disabilities and impact volunteer coaches through participation in free, non-competitive, one-on-one programs of physical activity and fun, supporting the overall health and well-being of all participants. KEEN San Francisco is an affiliate of KEEN USA, a national non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC, with additional affiliates operating in Chicago, Greater Washington DC, Los Angeles, New York, and St. Louis. KEEN San Francisco’s local Board of Directors is comprised of community leaders, parents, and volunteers, and KEEN develops partnerships to actively promote disability awareness. KEEN USA is a GuideStar Gold Participant, and Gold Seal status is described as the leading symbol of non-profit transparency and accountability. KEEN is modeled on an innovative program established in Oxford, England by Elliott Portnoy, who brought KEEN to the Washington, DC area in 1992.
