Little Mission Studio Music Lessons, Classes & Camps offers private music lessons, group music classes, workshops, and summer music camps. Students can take lessons in cello, flute, trumpet, saxophone, violin, viola, acoustic and electric guitar, voice, and percussion/drums, as well as study composition, ear training, music technology, music theory, and songwriting. The program also offers practice and rehearsal space rental, performance hall rentals, and music workshops and seminars.

Little Mission Studio was founded in 2014 by Christian F. Howes, Claire Plumb, and Matt Rupert. The mission of Little Mission Studio is to offer high quality music education through private music lessons, group music classes and workshops, and summer music camps, and to inspire creativity and cultivate musicianship in its community, with the belief that people of all ages and skill levels can discover the joy of music. Faculty have conservatory-level education in their instrument or vocal range, are active Bay Area performers, are described as passionate and experienced educators, and most faculty have advanced or multiple degrees in music and/or pedagogy.
Co-founder Christian F. Howes serves as Percussion and Music Technology Faculty and holds a BM in percussion performance and a BSE in computer engineering from the University of Michigan. Co-founder Claire Plumb serves as Voice Faculty, received her BM in Opera Performance at The Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, and studied in workshops and masterclasses at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the University of Oregon. At age 16, she was named one of the Top 50 Young Sopranos in the USA by the American Association of Teachers of Singers and one of the Top 33 Vocalists in the nation by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. Co-founder Matt Rupert serves as Piano and Clarinet Faculty, attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music in the Bachelor of Music program for clarinet, the Bachelor of Music Education program, and a Minor in Piano Performance, and has past studies that include chamber music workshops in Vienna with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna State Opera Orchestra. Marina Davis, a voice faculty member, is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory, where she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Performance and a Master of Music in Voice.
In 2024, Matt Rupert was honored in Yamaha’s Top “40 Under 40” Music Educators. Christian Howes spends significant time each year volunteering with Music For All, assisting in marching band competitions and summer camps. In 2021, Matt Rupert co-founded the Make More Music Foundation, a non-profit focused on scholarships to musical instruction, community educational concerts, and instrument donations and placements. Little Mission Studio also features a practice challenge tracking tool developed as part of Christian Howes’ software work, and Matt Rupert is the author of the book “Music for Broken Arms,” which features piano music for students using only one hand at the keys.
