About

Little Mission Studio offers private music lessons, group music classes, workshops, and summer music camps. Students can study instruments and areas such as cello, flute, trumpet, saxophone, violin, viola, acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, voice, percussion and drums, clarinet, composition, ear training, music technology, music theory, and songwriting. The studio also provides practice and rehearsal space rental, including solo practice rooms, group rehearsal rooms, and performance hall rentals, as well as music workshops and seminars.

• Price: Private Music Lessons: 30-Minute Private Lessons – $199/month; 45-Minute Private Lessons – $299/month; 60-Minute Private Lessons – $399/month. Group Music Classes: Range from $249 – $499 depending on the duration/number of class sessions. Music Workshops & Seminars: Range from $25 – $100 depending on the duration/number of sessions. Practice/Rehearsal Room Rentals: Group Rehearsal Room (2 – 8 people) – $49/hour; Solo Practice Room (non-students) – $24/hour; Solo Practice Room (current students) – FREE.

Little Mission Studio was founded in 2014 by Christian F. Howes, Claire Plumb, and Matt Rupert. Group music classes and private music lessons are offered for ages four through adult, and gift cards are available for purchase. The solo practice room is free for current students, and performance hall rentals are available.

The studio’s mission statement says that Little Mission Studio offers high quality music education through private music lessons, group music classes and workshops, and summer music camps, and that they strive to inspire creativity and cultivate musicianship in their community, believing that people of all ages and skill levels can discover the joy of music.

Faculty at Little Mission Studio have conservatory-level education in their instrument or vocal range, are passionate and experienced educators, and are active Bay Area performers, and most faculty also have advanced or multiple degrees in music and/or pedagogy. Claire Plumb is a co-founder and voice faculty member, Matt Rupert is a co-founder and piano and clarinet faculty member, and Christian F. Howes is a co-founder and percussion and music technology faculty member.

At age 16, Claire was named one of the Top 50 Young Sopranos in the USA by the American Association of Teachers of Singers and one of the Top 33 Vocalists in the nation by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. Matt’s book “Music for Broken Arms“ was published in 2022, he co-founded the Make More Music Foundation in 2021, and in 2024 he was honored in Yamaha’s Top “40 Under 40“ Music Educators. Christian spends a significant amount of time every year volunteering his skills to Music For All, assisting in marching band competitions and summer camps. The Make More Music Foundation is a non-profit foundation with the mission of uplifting and educating the next generation of young musicians through scholarships to musical instruction, hosting community educational concerts, and facilitating instrument donations and placements.
